Haymarket Theatre

Street Address:
722 W. Madison
Chicago, IL

According to an article in the Chicago Tribune of December 5, 1949, the Haymarket Theatre opened in 1887 and was demolished in 1949. Built as an upscale dramatic theatre, it declined into a vaudeville house and was sometimes "raided because of its lewd burlesque shows." In its final years, it served as a movie theater.

There is a digitized 1887 souvenir of the theater available as part of the Open Content Alliance/UIUC digitization project, here: http://hdl.handle.net/10111/UIUCOCA:haymarkettheatre00lawr
